BeWiSe (Belgian Women in Science) is a non-profit organization committed to promoting gender equality in science and engineering in Belgium. It provides a platform for female scientists across disciplines to connect, support each other, and advocate for equal participation in STEM fields. BeWiSe offers a mentoring program to help early-career women in science navigate professional challenges and supports their career progression. The organization also hosts events such as the annual Women in Science Day and runs educational initiatives like "GirLS Leading in Science" to inspire young women to pursue scientific studies. In addition, BeWiSe actively engages in advocacy by raising awareness about gender bias, offering resources on inclusive recruitment practices, and contributing to national and European discussions on gender in research.
BeWiSE Mentoring Programme
The BeWiSe Mentoring Programme supports early-career female scientists, particularly final-year PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, by pairing them with experienced mentors outside their discipline for one year of personalised guidance. As a mentee, you’ll benefit from one-on-one mentoring, skill-building workshops, and access to a cross-disciplinary network of women in science. The programme begins each year in February and includes an initial training session, regular mentor meetings, and final evaluation. Working primarily in English, mentees are encouraged to set their own goals and explore academic career development with the support of their mentor.
